Happy Halloween

I'm not a huge fan, but if anyone out there watches CSI:NY, keep an eye out next Wednesday for my friend Genoa. She's playing "Medical Examiner" and her dad will be "Dead Guy."

Here's proof:

Little Boxes made of ticky-tacky

I'm angry with Blogger right now. I tried to share the Jenny Lewis version of the Weeds theme song for y'all yesterday, but I kept getting error messages. Maybe the people at Blogger are as upset as I am that she shared vocal duties with Johnathan Rice.

So now all you get are the following pictures:

Birthday Cake

I forgot to wish my friend David a happy birthday on the blog a few days ago, so here's a belated message.

stoner jack o' lantern

I decided to go with a stoner face for my jack o'lantern this year. It's actually the first one I've ever made, as I have a pumpkin-gutting phobia. Most people wear rubber gloves when they scoop out the insides, right?

And I made a chocolate cream pie.

Little Boxes

For fans of Weeds or Jenny Lewis, here's her version of the theme song "Little Boxes."

She make them dogs go "bark, bark!"

Here's the story . . .

"Fergalicious" has been stuck in my head for a month now. I'd listen to it and sing it over and over and over. One day, I was serenading my dog, Kaya, and it became "Kayalicious."

I changed a few other lyrics and announced to Lukas that I'd record the Kaya version and make a video to go with it. "You're nuts," he declared.

I recorded the song this morning and put together the video in the evening. Yes, I used an entire day off. Lukas watched the final version when he arrived home from work and announced, "You're nuts."

Thank you, I'll be here all week.

Marie Antoinette? More like Marie Bland-toinette.

Mornings are for run-on sentences.

Because it's been in my head all morning, and because Lukas woke me up this morning saying, "I'm afraid Regina Spektor is going to be sold out before we get tickets," here's a song from Regina Spektor's newest CD, which is awesome.

Parade

Here's what you have to understand about this video:

I just discovered my computer came with a movie making program (a generic one at that), and I still don't quite know how everything works. But it's fun.

Help!

I TOTALLY need an mp3 of Fergie's "Fergalicious" -- the instrumental version.

If anyone has any ideas on how I can get my hands on this, it would be much appreciated.

P.S. I hate Jeffrey.

Dear Laura from Project Runway:

Hi there. First of all, congratulations on having all those kids. You are very fertile.

Now to the main event --

You were my favorite. You always had a witty comeback or insult for the other designers. And yeah, you had cocktails while you were pregnant with your sixth kid. I still defended you.

And now you're accusing Jeffrey of using outside help to finish his line, claiming that no one could have done all that stitching by hand in just two months.

Now, I know pretty much nothing about sewing and fabric and all that, but is it totally out of the realm of possibility? Jeffrey looks like he's on drugs 24 hours a day. I'm sure he had more than a few coke-fueled, 4-day-long sewing marathons.

Of course, I could be totally wrong, seeing that the preview for tonight's finale includes footage of Jeffrey sobbing after a big announcement.

I'd say I now want Michael to win, but I've seen his collection already and there's just no way that's happening. Go Ulli!

Love,
Joe

P.S. Your husband looks like Dr. Wily from the old Mega Man games.

It's Stacy Keach's world, we just live in it.

Finally, someone did Shakespeare the way it was meant to be seen....

with beatboxing, simulated cunnilingus, full-frontal nudity, and Stacy Keach's bare ass.

We took a little trip to Chicago this weekend to see King Lear at the Goodman Theater. We actually stayed the night in Indiana, where I met Lukas's father and sister for the first time. She's a Gilmore Girls fan, so I had an in with her. The dad proved to be a little more formidable.

This is how we know.

This is how you know you're getting old:

You leave Mississippi Nights after a rock show and say, "Well, that was LOUD, wasn't it?"

We saw The Thermals and Cursive, and it was a pretty good show. After some goading by Lukas, I got up the nerve to talk to Hutch and Kathy from The Thermals. We discussed Arrested Development.

Hutch said, "You know, I feel like I really haven't seen an episode unless I've seen it four times," which made me feel better about Tivo-ing the reruns on G4 while my season 1-3 DVDs sit on a shelf about six feet from the TV.

Kathy did a Buster impression, which lead to me saying "Hey, Hermano" while giving Hutch a pseudo-neck-rub. No touching, though, which was my regret of the night. That, and not bringing earplugs for Cursive's set.

Horrible sound and video here:

seriously. truly awful.

Thoughts on the New Fall TV Season:

* Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip

Aaron Sorkin would probably think that I don't take my job seriously because I don't walk around a building all day, talking quickly to anyone who happens to be within earshot. And I guess he'd be right.

Sidenote: Sarah Paulson (who is only 30???) is a lesbian, right?

Lauren Graham will guest star in a few episodes, and I'm sure she'll fit in perfectly. Which leads me to . . .

* Gilmore Girls

No, I don't have evidence that backs up my "This is the last season" claim, but it just feels like it. Hopefully, this show doesn't do that Friends thing where they somehow work out a last minute deal to keep the show going for a few more painfully unfunny seasons. Seeing as how show-runners Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino are already gone, I'm guessing the Last Episode Ever will coincide with Rory's graduation from Yale.

I've read some bad reviews for this season, but I've got no complaints so far. Well, maybe one...I need more Emily.

* Project Runway

So all four get to compete at Fashion Week? What a rip-off. Although, honestly, I don't know who I wanted to get the boot last week. I can't stand Jeffrey, but I might like his clothes better than anyone else's. Everything Laura designs looks like it comes from Madonna's video for "Vogue."

* The Office

Who is Jim's hot new boss? I love him.

I don't think I understood the joke from last week about Angela and the flies. Can someone explain it to me?

* SNL

Not funny. Maybe it's because I can't stand the sight of Dane Cook, but after watching the show's 930th season premiere, I felt....different. It's the first time I felt like I could take the show or leave it. Here's a thought -- what if Saturday Night Live is cancelled, but the two SNL-inspired series live on? Freaky.

* How I Met Your Mother

I only know two other people that watch this show (shout-out to David and Alan), but it's one of my favorites. I can't believe I have a crush on Doogie Howser. Why did it have to be Dustin "Screech" Diamond instead of him??

I haven't watched Ugly Betty or 30 Rock yet. And how upset would you be if you worked on Scrubs? Five seasons and multiple Emmy nominations and NBC waits until mid-season to air new episodes? What the frick?
