You wait for six years for an album from Ms. Apple, and you promote it by allowing her to make ONE video for the most boring song on the album? For shame!
Yes, I think the Grammy awards are meaningless. Every year I watch, and every year I think, "My God, just give them all to Norah Jones and be done with it."
But the truth is -- the winners see their album sales boosted almost immediately, and I couldn't be happier that my bitches the Dixie Chicks won all five categories they were nominated for. If any album deserves to sell 10 million copies, it's Taking the Long Way. (Right now, it's at about 2 million or so).
However, I wouldn't be surprised at all if the Chicks don't see a post-Grammy sales bump on next week's Billboard chart. People sure can hold a grudge, can't they?
In the "Didn't That Happen in an Episode of The Cosby Show?" category comes the story of my Valentine's Day present. Lukas found a vinyl copy of the Dreamgirls cast recording . . . the same item I was bidding on. At any rate, it has found a home on Gibson Ave.
My love for Sharpies has declined just a tad over the past few days. While cleaning up in the office on Thursday, I was stabbed in the left eye with a maroon retractable Sharpie. That'll teach me to sass Lukas.
(Kidding! It was totally accidental. Plus, I racked up some sympathy points. "What? Why should I take the dog out to poop? You stabbed me in the eye with a marker!")
Coincidence 1. - We watched Curb Your Enthusiasm on Wednesday, the one where Larry David stabs Ben Stiller in the eye with a skewer. I couldn't even watch that scene because I have a Rachel Green-like phobia of having my eyes touched.
Coincidence 2. - I've been listening to whitechocolatespaceegg a lot lately, especially "Big, Tall Man," which features the lyric, "My left eye hurts."
Coincidence 3. - I was searching for Left Eye footage on YouTube this week and cried upon viewing her unreleased solo video. (I loved TLC).

I recently discovered that "Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered" is more than just the title of a throwaway "Xander episode" of Buffy the Vampire Slayer -- it's a Rodgers and Hart song. I found this out when I saw The History Boys a few weeks ago.
In the film, a young boy played by Samuel Barnett (pictured) sings the song to his fellow classmate. It's adorable.
While I'm on the subject of Rufus, this Mika character seems to be getting a lot of coverage lately, but no one really talks about how he's a Rufus-ripoff.
Still, "Grace Kelly" is a great song, even if it does remind me of Rufus Wainwright's debut single "April Fools."
As for music by straight people, I just got Lily Allen's Alright, Still in the mail yesterday and I'm obsessed with this U-Myx software. It allows you to mix a couple of Lily's songs and I can't stop messing with it.
